As the Caterpillar once asked, “Who Are You?”
Where do I begin?
I suppose I begin at the beginning. I was born in California in the 1970's, but I have not lived here all my life. As a child, and young adult, I lived many different places in this country, and overseas as well. I now call the Mojave Desert home. Five years ago I embarked upon the scariest journey of my life. I was working at a job that was making me sick, in some ways, it was killing me, but it paid well, and had benefits, and like most people, I became used to the comfort of the known, no matter how awful it was making me feel. Then I lost that job, and despite facing complete uncertainty, I felt truly happy for the first time in a dozen years. I then had a decision to make, to either get another job, like the one I had before, which would probably also eventually make me ill, or I could do what I was educated to do, but too afraid to pursue when I finally finished college: Art. With a Bachelor’s in Art History and Art Studio from UC Davis, I chose the latter. One of my favorite poems is by Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken. It ends with these lines, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—- I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.” Although for me, this is not the end, but the beginning. The last five years have indeed been a less travelled road, hazardous, even now, but I would not trade a single day in these woods.
What’s with the name?
Sometimes we need to hold onto things from the past.
[fey]: supernatural; unreal; enchanted: elves, faeries, and other fey creatures.
[little wing]: song written by Jimi Hendrix and recorded by The Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1967.
Lyrics as follows:
Well, she's walking through the clouds - with a circus mind
that's running wild - Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
and fairy tales - That's all she ever thinks about...
Riding the wind - When I'm sad she comes to me
with a thousand smiles - she gives to me free
It's alright, she says - It's alright
Take anything you want from me - anything - Fly on, little wing
What Are My Desires?
I want my work to change the world for the better.
I want to constantly push my boundaries, and learn something new everyday.
I want my work to always have integrity, both in content and materials.
I will try to always be what I say, but I will always be what I do.
